Hi gang,
Does anyone know if there is a way of re-instating the old, simple
Windows Find utility from WinXP?

Every time I need to find a specific file, I do the usual holding down
the Windows key and press F, but unfortunately that's where the
simplicity of the WinVista utility ends. There are so many different
sections to fill in that you need to have a degree to use it!!!

Is there any way to download the older Windows Find utility?

Thanks in advance
Chris

I'll simply suggest an alternative. Download the Agent Ransack
program.

I don't get a lot of fields; just a box saying "to begin, type in the search
box" - and that's a single box at the upper right. Works like a charm, for
me!

You just type your search criteria in the search box (top right-hand side of
the search window) a filename or other search criteria.
can include a full file name e.g. "whatever.doc" or use a wildcard
character like "*.xls" etc. If you want the *optional* advanced parameters,
there's less than a dozen here, including:

"date modified/created"
"file name"
"file size"
"location" e.g. particular disk or network drive

Click the down-arrow button (under the search field) labeled "Advanced
Search".

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your advice, I now understand how it works! I was obviousl
making a mountain out of a molehill, but at last I can now find file
on my PC.

Thanks again,
Chri
