Hi i recently saw in a maazine that Windows Vista wasn't far off completion
and i went onto the website and found out that my laptop couldn't install
Windows Vista because i had not enough MB of Ram memory on it. is there any
way of getting a down graded trial version of Windows Vista that only needs
256 MB of Ram memory.
thanks

IMLE of Vista that's probably not realistic anyway. The minima are if
anything on the low side, to get the current beta to run at anything like an
acceptable speed you need a leading-edge computer.

No.

Minimum system requirements:
512 megabytes (MB) or more of RAM

The current beta builds of Vista run best with 1 GB or more of ram. Once the
beta debugging code is out (i.e. the general release product) it may be
acceptable with less ram but I wouldn't count on it. At a minimum you will
need 512 MB. Vista has some very nice features but I wouldn't upgrade an
older computer that is running fine with it's current OS unless you need to
run a program that will only work in Vista. When a new version of Windows
comes out there is always a transition that takes several years to occur.
New systems come with the new OS. Over time as people replace older systems
there becomes a large enough pool of systems running the new OS that
programmers start to write programs for it. Eventually several years later
they quit making sure their programs also run on older OS's. Windows 98 is
reaching that point now. If your current system is running Windows 98 it may
be time to start looking for a new system. If your current system is running
XP then it will be several years before the OS is obsolete. You will
probably be purchasing a new computer before that happens and the new
computer will come with a newer OS, possibly Vista.

there is a big difference in suggested and actual need.
microsoft may suggest 256mb and 5gb of hard disk.
in actually 1gb memory and 20gb disk space are realastic estimates.
in actuality 2gb of memory is a sweet spot that vista is really happy with.

seems there are some unscrupolus computer manufacturers who are advertising VISTA read with the minimum instead of the actual NEED.
people who buy these under powered computers are going to be really uhappy at the performance.

No. Just buy more if you need it.

PS: Don't buy Vista if you have a low end machine. It won't be happy.
I'd wait till at least 6 months AFTER public release to buy it. That
way you can be warned off if it's a lemon. (As Windows ME was)
