Windows Vista has been runing fing for about 1 month, I shut down my computer
because of a storm, just to be safe. When I rebooted later in the day windows
vista said either a major software or hardware change had occured and could
not be loaded. It said to insert windows vista disk and try to do a repair.
I did this, but it did noy correct the problem? So I went into my original
windows XP 64 and proceded to reload from scratch. Anyone have any ideas why
and will this happen again?

I assume that you have XPx64 and Vista in a dual boot, with Vista added last.
Have had the same experience. Vista and XPx64 have a different bootloader
and when you add Vista, Vista's bootloader takes over. You compounded the
problem when you sought the x64 disk to correct. To make you day worse than
it already is, to date I have no solution that works other than reinstalling
Vista.

If we ran a poll as to how many reinstalls have been accomplished since
Vista came out and received fifty cents for each one, we would all be
millionaires. Time will produce a good OS.

The start repair program in Vista did not work for me either, and several XP
tricks for resetting ntoskrnl will not work either.

Thanks for the reply..:_) I think what really happened is I haveVista on a
different drive other than my original XP64 which is C: drive. I loaded Vista
on a 160G drive that is my G:\ drive, but this drive has had problems, even
when slaved windows has been tell me this drive has errors and maybe damaged.
When I loaded vista on this drive, it told me I need to back up my data due
to serious disk problems. Since this occured I tryed to do a format while
in my XP64. Its said this drive can not be formated for a unknow reason. So I
guess I will get another drive and start over. I love using Vista and want to
keep it as my regular operating system.
