My friend is in a bit of a jam. He decided to upgrade from Vista back to Win
XP. The issue is, he has an upgrade version (he does have his old Win98, so
he got past that), but it doesn't have SP1 or 2 on it. He formats, but then
it goes right back to where it was after formatting. The choice of repairing,
formatting, or quitting setup. He's tried the other 2, but can't get it to
install. Any ideas? Help?

Vista install or uninstall has its problems. From youre post, sounds like a
unwanted partition exists.Try booting to xp cd,at menu screen (or just before
it loads),tap r For recovery console,if it asks,select 1 for C: Press
enter key
for password,if other text displays itself, simply type:DiskPart In DiskPart,
delete all partitions, create one, press ESC key when thru, type:EXIT Reboot
to xp cd,install xp (delete partition, create, let xp format). If you cant get
to
recovery,download & install the MS-DOS hd utility to a floppy,boot pc to
floppy,
do about the same as oulined above. The utility is at the hd mfg web site..

Thanks much, worked like a charm : ). He is officially installing now....

Many thanks.
