i have Windows Vista RTM i have just put a new procceser in my motherboard
which is ECS RS400-A and the proccesor pentium 4 630 but when i put the new
procceser in it keeps crashing and the time varies each time it crashes.but
before that with a diffrent procceser it worked fine and it works fine in xp
with 630 without crashing.

I would suspect a hardware or temperature problem. Do you have a live
Linux CD you could boot from to see if the behaviour is the same? Do you
have any programs that would enable you to check the CPU temperature?

It may be worth removing the heat sink, cleaning it and the top of the CPU
(very carefully) and then re fitting the heat sink - following the
instructions very carefully. Too much thermal paste can cause problems for
instance.

Vista is more finicky about hardware stability than XP, so any heating
or unstable overclocking is a problem.

First, make sure you properly mounted the heatsink and it's fully
contacting the case of the CPU. This is very common and people just
slap them on and figure they're good to go. Also make sure you don't
use too much thermal compound, it's supposed to be a very thin coating
to fill in the air gaps, not a thick coating which actually reduces
thermal transfer.

If you're overclocking and you don't have heat problems, then you
might have an unstable setup. Running Prime95 will find any errors in
your system, but make sure you have checked to make sure it's not a
heat issue first since Prime95 will peg the CPU at 100% and get things
very toasty. Prime95 can be found here:

i am having no problems with the linux everything running fine so i suppect
it is a problem with vista then?

That does seem to eliminate h/w problems doesn't it. How different are the
two CPU's - I wonder if you need to re-install Vista?
