With Vista you can put the CD in while Vista is running and then choose
Upgrade.
It will refresh all the files but keep all your settings, installed
programs, emails, etc.

thanx for reply
but the method u suggested didn't worked.the disc is i have is recovery disc
(which i noticed today) .when i tried by running disc with vista running i
got msg"configuration setting are only supported when windows installation is
started from windows PE".
what is this?
pls help me out of this problem.
also my os is not supporting keybord i have while it works on my friend's
laptop using same vista basic.

THe "Recovery disk" must be run from CD drive at boot. Keep in mind it
"restores" the computer to the condition when purchased.

Win PE (Windows pre-environment OS) is a "lite" OS version which initiates
the restore (and in legit Vista repair) function.
