Cool? Maybe.
But certainly not a big surprise...Vista is just XP+2003 with a pretty
GUI, some new toys, and third-party security software slapped on top.
Seriously, Vista is not a whole new operating system regardless of
what some will tell you. Oh sure they updated and re-wrote some bits,
but how many "integrated" programs in Vista look the same as in XP or
2003, with the same look and feel, and in some cases the same icons,
toolbars, etc.?
Heck, I've even got XP drivers installed for my RAID0 drives!
Don't get me wrong, I think Vista has some potential and the
improvements are generally good. For instance, Windows Mail is finally
good enough to get me to switch from my current email and news
clients. One reason is the search feature that works well. Another
reason is the window placements stick - I absolutely hate it when I
position a programs window and the next time I start it the window
opens in a different spot - ARGH!
And some of the other stuff is poorly implemented so far. It's still
beta, but it's a release candidate so it should be further along than
it is right now. I can see the final product is going to need a lot of
updates.
