It is not your graphic-card.

Vista installs even on Laptops with only 4 MB Graphics.

The point where this matters is , when install is finished and your system
is checked if it can display Aero or not.
If not, then you will automatically be presented with Aero-basic ( XP like
Look ) and wont find anywhere in the
OS a link to enable something higher.

Remove any unnecessary external devices that might cause problems detecting
during setup, this includes external drives and USB based devices.

Windows AERO Glass requires that you have a minimum of 64 MBs video RAM that
is Direct X 9 compliant and supports the Windows Display Driver Model
(WDDM), formerly (LDDM). If your video card does not meet these
requirements, it's the likely cause why you are not seeing it. For
onboard/integrated cards, you need to have 1 GB of dual channel memory
installed with 512 MBs of RAM allocated to the system. The amount of Video
RAM also determines the resolution size your Display can use.

Hi .

Well , I've just got the same installation problem in Vista RC1 as I had
with Vista Beta 2 :

First , I can't run the setup from within XP (installation from the DVD ,
after burning the ISO file to a blank DVD - this is the ISO of the 32-bit
file version , directly downloaded from MS site) (I used "Burn Image to
Disc" from within
Nero Start Smart).

When restarting my computer and booting it from the Windows Vista RC1 DVD
(I don't have the key : I had it in Windows Vista Beta 2 and the same
problem occurred during the installation) , the installation screen is
simply stuck (no progress in the "Collecting information" progress bar) .
It is stuck at the beginning of "Collecting information" .

I can think it's related to the Graphics card , rather than the ISO file
itself - I have nVidia Riva TNT2 M64 Graphics card installed in my
computer . (What is the minimum VRAM for installing Windows Vista RC1
properly ?)

Thanks in advance ,
Lior .

Hi,

Any BIOS level antivirus in use? If so, it should be disabled. Also, are the
installation and boot partitions the same?

Basically, I don't think your video card is the issue, but rather something
is interfering with the initial data collection process. Run the hardware
check from within Windows to see if it reports issues. It could also be
flakey ram, or a bad burn of the .iso file (try burning slower).

Yes , I've already checked this ATI site ... it says my system fails with
the
Graphics card (doesn't meet the minimum) . Is that why the setup stuck in
the
"Collecting information" step ?

Thanks in advance ,
Lior .

About 38GB free space on the installation drive , but remember that the
setup is stuck during the "Collecting information" step , much before the
setup asks where (ie. in which drive) I want to install Vista RC1 .

Thanks in advance ,
Lior .
