Hi,
I am using P4-3.0GHz/1GB RAM/80GB SATA with Intel Original 101 Motherboard.
I first installed vista 32 bit operating system and it used to hang a lot.
Then i downloaded 64 bit vista and installed it. At the very first login it
hanged. I had to manually reboot the computer. IE explorer also hanged a few
times and i had to again reset the computer. Both the 5600 builds had the
same problem on my machine. Earlier i tried Windows XP x64 and it was working
fine.

Did you perform a clean installation? Which other software have you installed?

Check your hardware to ensure it's 100% stable. Vista is much more
finicky about stability than XP was during install and booting.

I highly recommend running Prime95 overnight (8 hours) in the torture
test mode to make sure the system is stable:

http://www.mersenne.org/freesoft.htm

If Prime95 fails, then your CPU or RAM is not 100% stable.
Overclocking, even slightly, is an ideal way to cause very slight
instability that XP may not notice, but Vista might.

Note that this causes your CPU to run at 100% for the duration of the
test. If your system is not adequately cooled, heat can become a
factor in stability tests, which of course affects stability when
running Windows.

Hi,
Thanks for your help.
I tried Prime95. The CPU temperature is ok. I am using Kingston RAM and i
tested it for any failures. The RAM is also ok. I downloaded the intel
processor identifier utility and my processor is not overclocked. I am using
Original Intel MB and it was not having any problems with my earlier OS. With
Vista 32 bit i first did a clean install. It was hanging so i again installed
XP and did a upgrade. It again hanged when i tried to login, when i was
surfing net, opening drives. I had no other software installed at that time.
I tried my luck with x64 also but it caused the same problem. I think that i
should wait for the RTM.

RC1 should not be "hanging", which I presume you mean it installs and
runs for a while then locks up from time to time requiring a hard
reset (pushing the reset or power button on the computer). This sounds
like a hardware issue or driver conflict, and the final version may
not be any better.

Can you list your hardware in detail? Also list any drivers you needed
to install other than what Vista set up for you.
