Windows Vista - or not?

great article Stu.
I am telling all my clients that if you can wait a few months before
purchasing a computer to wait till Vista comes out. It will be much easier
to use then upgrade from xp.
I have run the vista updater on a few of my clients computers now and came
out feeling that it will be cheaper just to purchase a new computer than
upgrade their existing computer. With the hardware changes they need and
software updates some of it comes out to be over $400. Most of these
computers are at least 3yrs old or older and it is just not worth it to
upgrade.
Also you have to be very careful if you buy one now pre vista. You have to
read the fine print. If it is vista capable then you have to not only
update the operating system which some companies are giving to you free
included and some are charging you a small fee, but you have to update
Hardware too.
If you buy it Vista Premium, you still have to update the OS but you have a
better chance of not updating hardware or at least maybe one or 2 things
tops.
That is where the misconception is and alot of consumers do not realize it
because they do not read the fineprint in the ad for the computer.

Sounds like good advice. My analysis (for basic Home Edition), told me Nero
6 and NAV 2005 should be uninstalled B4 installation never to be used again
thus adding to cost considerations as you say. CPU came thru okay considering
its not duo technology. Guess that will have something to do with the version
of Vista that was being analysed - no CPU intensive multitasking and gaming
demands envisaged.

Which is the why there are so many good deals available with both notebooks
and desktops recently and I wonder how many would pass the `Update
Advisor`test of compatabity. Couple that with the fast approaching Christmas
hols and it is not hard to see how people could be suckered into buying a
comp which they think could have the potential of being upgraded without
incident. If I was contemplating buying , I would wait until I saw one with
the `Designed for Windows Vista` label on it, Vista loaded AND, demonstrated
to my satisfaction. Like you say. "Read the fine print". Better still. "Wait
if you can"
