I had Windows Vista Home Premium installed on this same laptop but after
purchasing a larger HD I had to reinstall. Before this I was able to connect
to my Windows 2000 machine that had all of my files/music. No problems at all.

After reinstalling and setting up a new router (Linksys WRTGS) I can no
longer access those files. I can ping the machine and get a reply, both from
Vista -> 2000 and from 2000 -> Vista. Its very odd. I do not have a firewall
installed on either machine.

What the heck is going on and how do I solve this issue?

Assuming you don't have firewall or other security software, can you ping each other by IP?

Same problem with me and in my case yes I can ping with IP address and
computer name. Can not access XP machine from Vista laptop.

The problem is peculiar to my desktop XP machine. "\\crossfire2 is not
accessible..." appears whether accessing from the laptop or another pc on the
network. This is just a home network. The network logon screen appears for
all the other pc's on the network. PC-a to PC-b or "b to a" but anything to
PC-c is a nogo. PC-c can share files and access any of the other pc's.

Guess that means incoming connections ore disabled on PC-c. Don't remember
if I did this on purpose. What should I check?

That could be permission issue. To confirm that, do net view \\remotepcipaddress and post back with the system error. Or this link may help.

Vista common issue - can see but access
