Windows Vista Home Premium: Where are all the bugs and annoyances?

I've updated my Windows XP machine to Windows Vista Home Premium and have had
no problems at all. I see so many people having dozens of problems and
pointing out every mistake and flaw in the operating system--am I one of the
few lucky ones, or has objectivity and perspective gone out the window? When
will people point out what Vista gets right?

This is my own personal opinion, but I've enjoyed the new operating system
very much and welcome bigger and better things for it in the future.

No, you're not alone. The same thing happened to me when I upgraded my XP
system (admittedly after upgrading the video card and the memory). Runs
fine. Of course you have to learn its idiosyncracies, but that's the case
with every operating system upgrade. I spent a while chasing down the
upgrades I needed to the applications I run, but eventually got everything
going just fine.

I've been watching this argument from a distance for a while, and I'm
beginning to think that the number of problems a person sees with a Vista
upgrade is sort of inversely proportional to the experience of the
individual concerned. The more you know about computers, and Windows
operating systems in particular, the better things go.

So have a grand time. As a long-time software developer with an emphasis on
computer graphics and user interface designI love the eye candy. Loads of
fun, and no significant problems so far.

Good to see someone else who has it configured and working well.

To be honest there are more people who have it working than not.

It just happens to be that the minority with issues tend to be the loudest

After all, there's really no reason for people who have things working to
post in a forum designed for people who =don't= have things working. :)

(BTW, count me among the "working" -- once I got UAC and SuperFetch shut
down and Symantec off my system, that is.)

I am having a great time with Vista and I am loving it. I have only had a
few very minor issues, but hey that is to be expected. Cheers to MS on
Vista.

Well, maybe you know what you are doing?

You'd look pretty stupid screaming over and over at anyone who would
listen about how you don't have any problems, no?

I also am very happy with Vista. No way would I want to go back.

What's this about disabling SuperFetch? Why? I thought it was supposed to
speed things up by preloading your commonly used files into RAM. How do you
turn it off, anyway?

Just curious! ;-)

That could be a possibility. I am somewhat of a computer nerd, but I am
nowhere near being an 'expert.' I just find it particularly laughable when
people complain about having to upgrade hardware (unless it is not
compatable) because those individuals either a. expected to use a 5+ year old
machine on a brand new operating system or b. bought discount hardware and
now find themselves short after only a few years.

That's generally true. However, there are quite a few of us who have been
here since June (Vista beta) and hang around here to see if we can help
other users.

Where are all the bugs?

here's one place to look:

If you're saying Vista has no bugs, you're not looking very hard.

I found the comments for the article more interesting than what the author
had to say.

I feel that the problems people have with Windows Vista are bound to vary
due to the vast degree of hardware available from all different dates. I feel
that pllacing blame on Microsoft for everything is unfair. Once again,
perspective is key for Vista. If I recall correctly, XP wasn't so hot when I
first got it and one person with a slew of problems on one machine might have
a perfect experience on another.
