Whilst there are many Keyfinder programs to find the validation code for an
installed version of windows when one wants to reinstall the OP from the CD
but have lost the validation code, are there any which will find the code on
the CD ?.

My hard drive has crashed so I cannot read it from there.

There is no 'code' on the CD. Look through other posts in this newsgroup to
find the links for lost/missing codes.

What about the sticker that is on your machine or on the Cd sleeve?

Others have already pointed out that the code is not on the CD. Let me just
add an explanation of why. To have the code on each CD would mean creating
each CD individually. That would be prohibitively expensive. Instead they
are pressed as identical clones of each other in very large lots.

No. The Product Key is not stored on the installation CD in any way,
shape, or form.

The Windows 25-character Product Key (required to perform the
installation) is stored on the CD packaging on a brightly colored
sticker that says "Do not lose this number." If it was an OEM (factory
installed) license, it's stored on a label that the PC manufacturer
affixed to the exterior of the PC case, or on the bottom of a laptop.

To recover a lost Product Key:

If it was a retail license and you have proof of purchase:

If it was an OEM license, you should contact the computer's
manufacturer; although very few manufacturers/vendors keep records of
the Product Keys they've sold, it's worth a try before you have to buy a
new license.

Define "crashed". Did the drive physically fail or did the OS crash? If the
physical drive is okay, you might try slaving it to anohter mahcine and
running the key finder that way.

My understanding of the OPs question was that he wanted to extract the code
from the CD. I presumed that he didn't have a sticker, either on the CD
case or the computer itself.

The code isn't on the CD (at all).
