I only know of one user on a laptop - the admin user -
and they are now locked out due to the password being
entered incorrectly too many times. How can I get round
this? I just want to retrieve some files and then I
don't mind reinstalling it!

Thanks

John

Check again. Make sure you're logging on to the local Administrator account (or to whatever name it may have been renamed as).

That account, if it's the same one that was created with setup, CANNOT be "locked out"

It can, however, be renamed and ANOTHER account could be given that name, Administrator. I understand if this isn't helping you fix your problem, but hopefully it helps understand it a bit clearer. You need to be certain that you are logging on locally to the correctly spelled user name. If the laptop is on a MS Domain you should be able to login as a domain admin and change whatever local login info you need to

Good luck
