From time to time I get asked to help people to "repair" their computers and
quite often I find that their windows updates ARE NOT up to date.
Unfortunately many of them are using a dial up account and to get them up to
update could take hours! I have an SP2 update disk but I need up dates since
that time on a disk that I can use on other computers. HOW CAN I DOWNLOAD
ALL THESE UPDATES? When I go to updates, MS wants to check my computer and
give updates applicable only to me. Tks.

"Hours".......Most dial ups run at 40 to 50 kbs, more than enough to visit
updater. If it runs slower, try downloading internet connection hardware
drivers/
software from the mfg..

Start by reading this article:

How to download updates and drivers from the Windows Update
Catalog
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;323166

Next, visit this web site.

Windows Update Catalog
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/catalog/en/default.asp

Click on "Find updates for Windows operating systems".
In the Operating Systems box, scroll down to the next to last
entry, "Windows XP SP2".
Hit the Search button.
You can now create a Download Basket of the updates you need.

If you're looking for specific updates, here's another source
you can use:

Microsoft Security Bulletin Search
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/current.aspx

Good luck

Just to add:-

How to install multiple Windows updates or hotfixes with only one reboot
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=296861

Your one stop post for Windows Critical Updates!
http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=31886

For security and other patches released for a given month :
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/ms##-***.mspx
Replace ## with the two-digit year
Replace *** with the three character month abbreviation

Providing there are releases for that month, you will see the list of "critical"
"important" patches for that month
Check on the 2nd Tuesday of each month - later in the day.
