oh and does anyone know when sp 3 is coming out

Hello ! It is very good you have SP2 .
First about SP3 for Windows XP - the answer is not soon .

Now ,make sure your Windows Firewall is ON and set to "Don't allow exceptions"
Start->Settings->Control Panel->Windows Firewall

Then :
Start->Windows Update .
Follow the instructions and download ALL high-priority updates using
"Express install" button .You'll be asked to reboot ,so reboot after
installing the updates.

Now make sure you have antivirus software which is up-to-date and correctly
configured (make sure it scans ALL files ,compressed files , uses heuristic
or any other kind of protection agains unknown threats ,also scans for other
threats if possible)...
Perform full scan ! If any ,clean the infections

<<< If you don't have antivirus software ,or if you have problems removing
any malware ,goto my web-site
http://pandaman.hit.bg
and perform the malware removal instructions >>>

If you don't have antivirus software ,buy one .Very good is
Panda Titanium 2006

Good is Norton AV 2006 , Nod 32 ...

Free antivirus ( but it isn't as good as others)
AVG free
http://free.grisoft.com

Now check your PC for spyware using Ad-Aware SE Personal
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware

Check the status of Automatic Updates
Control Panel -> Automatic Updates

Now make it as it best meets your needs :-)
I have set it to :
Notify me but don't automatically download/install any updates.This way I
receive a yellow bubble notification on my PC that there are updates
available and I immediately visit the Windows Update web-site but you can
can set it as you like it .

Mark, The autoupdate may be set to download and update your pc at 3am. This
is the automatic setting. If your pc is not switched on at that time then
that may be the reason you are not getting any updates.

Go to Contorl Panel
Click the Automatic Updates icon
In the AU windows click the radio button next to the 'download updates for
me, but let me choose when to install them.'
Finally click OK to exit and then exit control panel

If the above setting is already set then you best go to the Windows Update
site and see what updates are available for download. you do this as
follows:

Click the Start button
On the Start Menu click All programs
Right at the top there is a small section. look down the list until you see
Windows Update. You may also see Microsoft Updates.
You can click on either of these to take you to the Windows Update site.
However, if you have Microsoft office installed use the Microsoft Update
option link on the menu because this also updates Office as well as Windows.
Once at the Update site click the Custom button and then, if any updates are
available, download and install them.
