Windows Updates

Downloading and installing the updates takes so long and
then sometimes fails to install. It seems like it is not
worth the bother yet they seem to be important. Can the
installation be speeded up?
 
The speed at which you get the download is a matter of what kind of internet
connection you have. If you have a dial-up connection it takes a long time.
If you have a broadband connection, it doesn't take so long. If you have
cable service in your area and you can justify the extra cost, I would
suggest you try it. I have had cable for several years and tried a dial-up
service for about a week, I can't go back to dial-up. It takes me about 6
minutes to download SP1 with cable.

So far as the install process, I've found that it is better to only take one
update at a time, starting with SP1. Others may have a different view on
that but, it works for me.
