where do updates go when they are installed? is it possible to put the
updates onto a cd and install them onto another machine to save having to
download them all?

thanks.

The updates are not in a form that can be stored on CD and installed on
another computer. This is intentional, so that Windows Update can present to
each computer only those updates which are needed.

Hi Steve.
where do updates go when they are installed?

On one disk - e.g. C:\ or D:\ is a directory \WUTemp

There the updates will be stored until they are installed - after installing an update, it will be deleted in WUTemp
is it possible to put the updates onto a cd and install them onto another machine to save having to download them all?

There are some possibilities:

- The update window has 2 progress bars - 1. all selected updates will be downloaded and 2. the installation progress
If an update is downloaded and not installed, you may be able to take a copy...

- Before you start the download, you have a frame with all selected updates - With "more informations" you may find the source of each update

- Perhaps MS may ship you a CD containing all updates on demand

- My preference: Check with windowsupdate.microsoft.com which updates are available for you, but don't download them - for download (without installation) use instead v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/default.asp?corporate=true and select the recommendet updates (see above) for download - after this, you have all updates saved on disk and you have to install them manually.
