Windows (?) Updates problem

Using Win XP PRO SP2 with updates. In my system tray I have this little
yellow shield with what looks like an exclamation mark through it (similar
in shape to the MS Security Centre shield) and it keeps wanting to download
updates! I cannot double click or right click it to find out more. What is
it?

Further to my query, I have set Windows to notify me of updates but not to
download. Maybe this is a download from an earlier permission given? I am
on dial up.

Problem solved...........it was an MS update, must have disconnected from
internet before "update download"(?) took place.

Hi there
having read your query, i too did have this yellow shield and couldnt figure
out what it was or how to get rid of it, what i did was right click on it and
open it, (when i moused over it it told me i had updates waiting to be
installed) it comes with asking windows to auto update, it does take a while
to load id noticed, now mines gone after i manager to get in, so my steps of
right clicking it could be wrong, you eithe rright click ir ot double click
it and it activates what it wants to do, if you right click and get no menu
try double clickin it!
hope that helps you, iv just only solved the problem other day, and aint
100 percent which way i went!
