Windows Updates not allowed to download or install

P

Patrick

Good morning,

I am working with a mixture of XP and 2000 pro clients on
a 2000 Small Business Server domain. When I try to update
themm using the Windows Update Website, there are 2
critical updates available. These updates will not
download or install onto the units.

They are the following patches:
KB830352
KB828028

When I click install, they start to download, get to 590KB
in less than 1/2 of a second. Then it goes straight to the
failure message.

Please let me know how you are resolving this.

Thanks!

Well, it looks like it is a Microsoft issue, because I am
having the same problem as well. (Perhaps a new virus
attacking the Microsoft website?)

I was experiencing the same problem until I tried downloading one of
the patches and doing the 'manual' install. After rendering a
different error message i found that update was looking for a file in
my c:\winnt\system32 directory --> PSAPI.dll

I did a search for this file -found it in an archive directory -
copied it to //...system32, went back to windows update, tried again -
everything installed.
Hope this helps.
