This is the scenario:
I just started in a new company with 7 servers, 2 are DC and running W2K
Server.
Apparently the company that was helping them out with the network messed up
and attempted to use SUS to push the updates but that did not work and the
clients (130 of them) have not received an update yet)
I checked the GPO and had to change it to the default. Added the Windows
Update template and made sure that they are all in "Not Configured" in order
to allow the computer users to update theough Microsoft Update site. Yes, I
need for the clients to update by themselves because there are lots of
notebooks that only attach to the network one in a blue moon.
I regained control over the windows update manually. Go to the site, express
updates... downloads them... when installing it fails all of them. All the
computer with the same issue. I verified and the replication is happenning
correctly. I took a computer off the domain and try the update again, same
issue. No error message it just fails. Checked the log file and there is an
error regarding 0x8007f004 or something like that. Checked the KB and guess
what... plenty of unusefull information. It has been 3 days searching for a
solution that is not spinning the disc on all computers and reload from
scratch and all servers as well.
If I take a computer and reload it from scratch, I can do the windows
updates normally.
Reset the security settings in the client computer using secedit (W2K), same
issue.
Made sure that the audit log was set for users and admins, same issue.
Made sure that nothing else is running, no spyware checking or antivirus, or
anything else, same issue.
Renamed the updates folder, same issue.
Tried downloading Windows Installer 3.1 redistributable, same issue, it
fails to install.
Reregister the dll files that WU uses, same issue.
I received an email from MS with a few steps to follow, same issue.
GPRESULT shows the correct server where it gets the GPO.
GPUPDATE with force and stuff, same thing.
Out of options!
Any help, articles, links, stuff to read more, THE ANSWER, that would be
greatly appreciate.
NOTE: Loggin as domain administrator in the local computer same issue, safe
mode, same issue, local admin in the computer, same issue.
