If' he has already installed them, he's out of luck.
There is an option under windows update where you can
download the patches and save them out to the hard drive
first (before being installed) Tell him to do to the
windows update site, in the left column click on Windows
Update (under the "See Also)
Click the link for "Find updates for Microsoft Windows
operating systems" Click on the operating system,
(Example Windows XP)Then click search, it will then give
you a list of updates avail, (critical, recommended, etc
and tell you how many are available) Pick the topic and
then add them to the download basket. You can then tell
the download where you want them saved.
