does anyone know why you have to go to windows update site to update Defender
and when you just click on the defender update it doesn't work from there?
 
Engel has given the right pointer: Update within the program works via
AutoUpdate.

Does AutoUpdate work on your network? Does it connect to an internal,
corporate server, rather than to Microsoft?
