Don't know if this is the right group.

IE Explorer locks up everytime I try to update software. Brand new
computer, with norton and spyware protection. Any clues on how I can update
software?

I'm trying to update Microsoft Office software because that isn't working
either.

I can open Office in safe mode sometimes but Office documents lock the
computer up when i try to open them off of email or disks
 
I'm using IE6; windows XP; office 03, on a sony viao; i know you have to be
specific

the error messages that i get on the office problem is that I need to update
software.... (microsft online crash analysis)

the error message (microsoft online crash analysis) that i get when IE
explorer locks up when i am trying to update is that a 'hang up' has occured,
spyware, add ons, or virus.....

the office software locks up as soon as i try to open a document
IE6 locks up as soon as I hit the install activex control icon

i'm hoping that there is a simple solution and not that my brand new
computer has already been infected with some sort of virus

any help or guidance would be appreciated

Run a thorough check for hijackware, including posting your HijackThis log
to an appropriate forum for review.

When all else fails, HijackThis v1.99.1
(http://aumha.net/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. **Post
