I have 18 updates available, I can select any number of
these, or only 1, the EULA part comes up, I say continue
and Explorer locks up. Is there a particular Upgrade I
need to do first before any others?

Hi Daryl,
18 is a huge number for any one single session.
Focus strictly on "critical" updates. And if any IE browser SP1 *cumulative* updates show up ---only take the June cumulative update.
Otherwise, as a general rule, just take a few at a time.
And of course, if you do not have Service Pack 1 --- take that as the very first item of all --- and it by itself.
