I just installed the latest updates for Win 2000 on a
laptop. It will not boot now. It gets to applying
security patches and hangs. I can't start it up in safe
mode either. The end user has data that he hasn't backed
up...so I can't reformat and start over. Any ideas?

I did a repair...and now I get passed that point (takes
forever), but my cpu usage for the system is
99%...consequently, I can't even get it do anything.

I have the same thing happening... I need to get back
soon... have you found out anything?

Would you believe you must have the patience of a saint
to solve this one. The hotfixes yesterday tie up the cpu
at 99% utilization. The last 1% actually allows you to
boot...but it takes almost an hour for it to make it
through the boot process. You can then go to add and
remove programs. I started this morning at 8:30 and am
finally on the last hot fix removal. Six hours later, the
machine boots without problems. Boy would I like to
charge Microsoft for my time.
