windows update

I did a windows update and now my computer reboots but all
i get is the wallpaper...no programs, no icons, no "start"
button. what did i do wrong and what i can do to fix it?
 
Check Taskmanager and see if explorer.exe is running in
the Processes tab. If not click on File>New task and type
in explorer.exe and see if the desktop appears. Try
reapplying the latest service pak and see if that will fix
the problem.
 
One thing to add, Ctrl+Shift+Esc to bring up task manager
if you didn't know already. You might want to disable the
autologon to prevent future issues like this.
