Windows update website search hangs

I recently changed my motherboard and repaired Windows XP
using Install disk plus SR1 update. Now when I go to
Windows Updat and the site says "Searching for updates"
etc , it just hangs there indefinately until I exit the
ste.
I therefor cannot update the file from the website.

Any suggestions for a fix?
Please help

PS Using Pentium 4, 512m Ram MSI motherboard etc. I am
able to access other stes for updates (eg Norton)
