Windows Update "Undefined"

When I go to Start Menu, and click on Windows Update the window opens, but
instead of the update, I get a blank window and the word "undefined." If I
acccess Windows Update in other ways it works fine, as does the Automatic
Update. I have XP Pro on a Tosheba laptop which I have had about 3 months.
Accessing Update through the Start menu seemed to work fine the first month
or so. It is not a real problem, since I have automatic updates and can go
to Update in other ways, just inconvenient when I want to check for updates.

Hi Chris,

Does IE window open? And, do you have a screenshot?

IE opens. In fact everything works except I can't get Windows Update to work
through the Start/Help Menu. Update works fine if I go through the Control
Panel. I suppose I have screenshot but I am not sure how to get to it or if
you mean you want me to post a screenshot which I am not sure how to do. The
Update page appears, but it is blank--no text or places to click. The words
Windows Update appear to the left and the word "undefined" on the right.
Thanks for your help and interest.

Chris,

See if this applies.

Clicking the Windows Update link in Help and Support Center causes error 'undefined':

Yes, the link you posted describes the situation exactly. Thanks so much.
I'll follow up on some of the suggestions in the links. I appreciate your
