Windows update Service Pack 2 fails to install

I'm using Windows XP Proffesional. I keep getting update notices and I've
tried several times to use these updates. It will start to install and then
many error notices come and and say they can't install. It then says Service
Pack 2 can't install and un-does the whole thing! What can I do to install
these updates or at least make the update balloon stop bothering me?

Try downloading the full SP2 and install from that or order it on CD, or
create an installation CD slipstreamed with SP2 and install clean.

If not doing a clean install with a slipstreamed installation CD, make
sure the system is ready for SP2. Do a thorough check for malware. The
system must be clean and free of operating problems for SP2 to be
successful.

I tried to install Service Pack 2 and got this error: The requested section
was not present in the activation context. I then tried to update my comp. to
get it ready for SP2 but I didn't need any. Do you know what to do next?

Tried to install how? You might try calling MS, they used to have free
tech support for SP2 upgrade problems. Good luck to you.
