I've raised my problem here earlier, but am still at a loss:

1. Since installing RC2 (nearly 3 weeks ago) I have received no downloads
whatsoever.
2. I have a feeling, that although all seems well, WU is not functioning.
3. Is there any method of testing that WU is working in my Vista RC2?

I just ran Windows Update on my RC2. Results Windows is up to date and there
are no Windows Ultimate Extras available.

The view update history link shows definition updates for Windows Defender
on 1/25/2006 and 10/27/2006.

Windows Update should be on your Start, All Programs menu.

Microsoft seems and has always seemed to be very strict on updates I assure
you it works. I didn't get a notice after all updates were installed and bam
just like an apple pie out of the bakery it chimed in telling me an update
was available.

Got Defender updates (X86 and X64) today also.

| I'm getting the Defender updates - aren't you seeing those?

Well, your kind responses confirm at least that my WU is not working. It
goes through the motions with the little green bar whizzing to and fro- but
the answer is always, "Windows is Up to Date" -Review Update History reports
"You have not downloaded any Updates"
Any Ideas as to how I can set things to right?

As evidenced on these boards I have often sought help to get my Windows
Update (RC2) to perform. Despite the best advice from many kind respondents,
nothing worked.
Over the weekend I installed "Registry Mechanic" for general maintenance. I
ran RM and, lo and behold, Windows Update was up and running again,
"Their's not to reason why " - I pass it on for what it's worth
