Windows Update Problem

Am having problems with Windows Update. Last two updates were:

4/18 Defender definitions (1.31.8982.0) Successful
4/23 Defender definitions (1.31.9142.0) Failed with error code
8024402C

Now when I check for updates, I get the red box stating "Windows could not
search for new updates" and giving error code 80090305. Can't find this
error code anywhere; it is not shown in Help error code listings.. Would
appreciate info from anyone who knows what this error code means, or who has
advice on solving problem.

0x8024402C WU_E_PT_WINHTTP_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED Same as
ERROR_WINHTTP_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED - the proxy server or target server name
cannot be resolved.

Following site lists some of the more common stop errors and possible
solutions. The site is authored by a MVP that actually knows what he's
talking about unlike the fanboy clowns that hang out in this

You may also want to give the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows
Vista a try. While I didn't see you're specific error code, the tool
is designed to fix a wide range of issues, so a chance it could
resolve it for you.
