I updated WindowsXP last night and now, although I can use Outlook Express
to access NewsGroups, I cannot upload / download email. I have tried a
broadband and dial-up connection so I am wondering if one of the updates has
caused a problem.

Has anyone else experience this problem?

Regards.

What happens when you try to use OE? Error message?

Alias

Type "windows update" (without quotes) in the newsgroups search facility,
and you will probably have better luck there.

His problem is with OE, so he is not off topic. He *thinks* it might
have something to do with WU.

I have now discovered that the problem was with LiveUpdate (Norton) and NOT
Windows Update.

Hi Bill

For the sake of others who may have this issue and Norton on their system,
could you please elaborate a bit more (delete live update/OE settings
etc...etc) Thanks.

Usually just running LiveUpdate manually and repeatedly till you get the "No
additional updates available" prompt will sort things out.

We recommend disabling email scanning by your anti-virus application (e.g.,
NAV's Email Protection). It provides no additional protection and even
Symantec says it's not necessary:

Disabling Email Scanning does not leave you unprotected against viruses that
are distributed as email attachments. Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect scans
incoming files as they are saved to your hard drive, including email and
email attachments. Email Scanning is just another layer on top of this. To
make sure that Auto-Protect is providing the maximum protection, keep
Auto-Protect enabled and run LiveUpdate regularly to ensure that you have
the most recent virus definitions.
