Hello, I just did a fresh format and install of Windows 2000 SP4. Everytime
I try to access either the Windows Update site or the Microosft Update site,
the ActiveX control doesn't download. I have cleared the temporary internet
files, refreshed and reopened IE, and rebooted several times and tried it.
After the site hangs at the "figuring out which updates you need" screen for
a few minutes I eventually get the screen that tells you to clear the temp
files and stuff. The error code in the upper right hand corner is "Error
number: 0x8DDD0004". Any ideas??

Thanks!

My reply is at the bottom of your sent message:

This has worked in the past so hopefully will work for you...

Open IE, click on tools, options, security, highlight the trusted sites,
click sites, UNTICK the box that says they require httpS: for sites in that
zone, add *.microsoft.com to the list, disable your firewall's ActiveX (or
active content or even scripting) settings for the time being, and kill your
anti-virus but don't go surfing to other sites while it's disabled nor
download/open email or other files of course.

That's where I'd start at any rate...

REGSVR32 %systemroot%\system32\wuaueng.dll
does not give me a success prompt, this means something is wrong? if so, how
do I correct it. Everything else gave me a success prompt.
