I have seen many posts regarding this problem, but none of the proposed
solutions have worked for me.
I have a win2k server with SP4
I receive an error after Windows Update searches for new updates (the page
with the green bar progress bar). It takes awhile to search, and then comes
back with error number 0x8024402C.
I have tried the following:
http://update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/v6/showarticle.aspx?articleid=17&ln=en
Deleted everything from the DataStore folder
http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/showarticle.aspx?articleid=30&ln=en
I am not running ISA, and there is no firewall software installed on this
server
IE is already set up to automatically detect settings
I am not running through a proxy, and other machines had no trouble
performing windows updates through our sonicwall router. I do not see any
rules that would be denying this machine access in particular. I added the
suggested sites as trusted sites as well.
There were no exceptions in the proxy settings, and I am not using a proxy
anyhow
procycfg is an unrecognized command
I have tried restarting the automatic updates service
I saw two other posts that might be helpful, but wanted some reassurance
before attempting them. One of the ideas is to delete from the registry:
HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Windows/Internet Settings/Connections. The other is
to copy proxycfg.exe from a WinXP client and run it on the server.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Rob
