Hi all -

I am running Windows XP home edition. An update from this winter
(2006) disabled my educational CD: a science CD that launches in IE
v6.0 and uses Shockwave, Flash and Quicktime.

I had to uninstall the patch (or update) in order to run my CD.

I was so annoyed that I have had updates turned off ever since.

Ideas?

Thanks.

What was the particular Windows update? This would be a very
unusual occurrence unless the CD was defective or its main
executables were poorly programmed.

most likely due to the added "Local Computer Zone Lockdown"

google for that term and read the KnowledgeBase articals on how to open up
the Local Computer Zone again.

I'm not at home...I think it was a security patch. Microsoft warned
web developers that their sites might be effected. You run this
software off of the cd. When I tried to launch it, the Shockwave and
Flash would not run.

There is probably a better option other than uninstalling an update.

If you post details such as exactly what the CD is as well as the patch,
someone here may be able to help.
"I think it was a security patch" is far to vague to be of any value for
someone to give specific help.
