After installing the latest windows updates and restarting
my computer...the computer reboots just as it is launching
Windows, creating an endless loop.

Any suggestions on how to recover?

Try safe mode, push F8 and boot into safe mode, then
shutdown and reboot again normally sometimes that will
break the update boot loop problem.

Scott,

Thank you for your post.

My first step would be to attempt to boot into safe mode. If you can get
booted into safe mode then from the control panel, you can go to add/remove
programs and attempt to remove the updates that were applied. I would try
them one at a time, taking note of which update was just uninstalled. That
way you can find the conflicting update.

The following is a Microsoft support article on safe mode and how to boot
into it:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;202485

If that does not work, from within the safe mode boot screen you could try
Last Known Good. This will load the drivers and registry from the last
successful logon, possibly bypassing the files/changes are causing the
reboot loop.

Best regards,
Blane Clark

I just had the same problem this morning. 2 computers loaded the updates
fine but the third one is stuck in an on-off loop. However, when it boots up
it does not go far enough into the procedure to start windows in safe mode.
I am lucky if it goes far enough to hit delete to enter bios setup. HELP!

When I installed the updates and restarted I received (and
still do) a "stop error...inaccessible_boot_device" I
press F8 and regardless of which option I choose, the same
stop error is posted. I researched this stop error in
M/S's website and their advice is to remove viruses or
other such things that requires you to have your computer
up and running, which I can't do! :[

I'm at a total loss.

Hopefully somebody comes up with something for this soon.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Login safe mode as admin
remove KB840987
Reboot
This should fix your problem if you have an nvidia tnt card.

Hello all! I am having the same problem now after installing the Windows
2000 updates from the website. I cannot login at all - Safe mode, last known
good, etc. Has anyone had any success at all?
