Hi,
To resolve the problem with Windows updates, go through
the following:
Procedure #1:
The C:\Windows\System32\CatRoot2\ folder needs to be
renamed, to force Windows to recreate the EDB database.
1. Click Start, My Computer
2. Open the C drive
3. Open the Windows folder
4. Open the System32 folder
5. Locate the CatRoot2 folder and rename it to CR2OLD.
6. Close the window, and try installing the Critical
Updates again.
If the problem persists, go through the following:
Procedure #2:
1. Connect to Windows Update
2. Click on the Personalize Windows Update link
3. Place a check in the box labeled "Display the link to
the Windows Update Catalog under See Also"
4. Click the Save Settings button
5. Now click on the Windows Update Catalog link under the
See Also section
6. Click on the link Find updates for the Windows
Operating Systems
7. Choose Windows XP Professional
8. Click the Search button
9. Click on the Critical Updates section to locate all of
the Critical Update available for the system
10. You can now select the updates that failed to install
and download them again
This site will allow you to save these updates to disk
before you install them. Once you download an update, then
remember where you saved it to and double-click on the
downloaded file to install it.
Also stop using the computer, particularly the internet
connection for a while. Automatic updates is programmed to
not take away from other resources, so that its not as
intrusive while you are actually using the machine. You
can pause the task and reboot, and it will start up again,
later.
Thanks,
