Windows Update Driver Settings

I have this set to "Never Check for Drivers When I Connect A Device". This
is so I can install new drivers for my graphics card and sound card. So,
after uninstalling the old drivers and rebooting the PC, why does Windows
install drivers anyway? I can't even stop it during the process. Is there a
way to stop it from doing this? I thought ticking the never check option was
the answer but it doesn't seem to work.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Cheers.

It's installing drivers that are included with the
operating system...not from Windows Update
site. Just go ahead and search the support
sites of your hardware mfgs for the current
driver updates and install them.

Hey John,

I understand what it's doing and why it's doing it, I just wish it wouldn't.
Especially with graphics card drivers. To avoid any conflicts it's always
best to completely uninstall the old drivers and install the new ones on,
what is essentially, a clean slate. What Vista is doing is forcing me to
install the latest drivers over the ones it has installed itself even though
I have told it not to. I was hoping that there was a way to stop it from
doing this and letting me decide what to install.

Cheers.

You would prefer a blank screen (no graphics driver no picture, correct?) so
you can install on a clean slate? Seems rather difficult to me...
