Windows Update doesn't work anymore

The screen sits at "Windows Update is looking for
available updates... 0% complete". I found an
article "Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 812956", and
tried it, but it still doesn't work. Is there anyway that
I can debug this? Or a way to uninstall, and re-install it
cleanly?

In my case also, after 0% update complete it says, failed
to install, please try reinstalling. It doesn't work even
after 100 retrials. Othewise downloads work but not
through automatic updates which is a great headache.
Please suggest solutions to this problem.
