Windows Update Crashes when it is closed

For the last several months when I close windows update it
crashes and I send message to MS with no resolution forth
coming. It has not affected getting or installing any of
the updates thus far, so it is a inconvience but not fatal.

I have Windows XP as the OS, and I keep the updates
current.

Thanks for any help, MS has not been helpful thus far on
the free online support.
