We have around 200 remote users who use laptops to connect. As it stands, they have 2 ways of connecting to us, 1: the good old dial up route via a 56k modem, and 2: through broadband. Our concern is keeping the laptops up to date both virus wise and windows update. We know for certain that on 56k, users just do not stay online long enough to download the required updates, and when they do, the PC's slow down to an almost unusable state
What we would like to do is to have 2 different profiles that enable users to choose which connection they are using, so the PC updates when it connects to broadband or Lan, and not when connection via dial up
Has anyone got any ideas of how we could do this

Cheers

Your first step is to choose an application vendor (Symantec, McAfee, etc.)
Your next step is to contact your chosen application vendor and discuss your
situation with them. You can be sure that they deal with your situation
every day.

sorry for the misunderstanding, but its not the virus software im worried about, McAfee's DAT files are normally small enough to download via dial up.. Its the windows updates im after....

No problem, but my answer to you is about the same. The advice you are
looking for is best provided by Microsoft, which had your need all figured
out long ago. This is a self-help newsgroup for problems with Windows XP -
not Microsoft support.
