Is there a way to get Windows to automatically install updates while running
as a standard user account, or do you need to sign on as an administrator (XP
pro in a workgroup)?

Hi

It might work if you configure Automatic Updates to automatically
download updates and install them on a scheduled time.

You can use the Scheduled Tasks option and set it up to run as Administrator.
You can access this by going to start/programs/accessories/system
tools/scheduled tasks. This starts a wizard that will guide you through the
process and allow you to chose the Windows Update to run at a chosen time and
what account to use when it is ran.

Thanks, I'll give it a try.
