Hello :)

I was removing some viruses from a clients' computer today, and went to go
patch it.
It immediately complained, twice, that I needed to set my ActiveX controls
to allow the program to run.
I turned every security setting regarding java, activex, and scripting to
'enable'..
I checked group policy to see if there was a GPO Affecting windows update,
no dice.
I checked the registry to see if it was disabled.. Nothing... I've done all
that I could.

Are there any known viruses/trojans that disable ActiveX script
running/downloads in general or specifically for windows update?

Check that Microsoft.com or the WU site did not somehow get added to the restricted
Web Content Zone and add it to the trusted zone and set security level to default
which should be medium to see if that helps. --- Steve

Yes, I added the windows update to the trusted zone, checked the restricted
zone, changed the zone settings to very low, custom edited the configs as a
big gaping security hole.. nothing I did would let me view the ActiveX
control.

OK. I don't know offhand what else could cause that. You also may want to
post on the Microsoft.public.softwareupdatesvcs newsgroup. --- Steve
