Attempting to access the Microsoft Update site at
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com results in redirection to
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/thanks.asp which displays the
following message:

------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Thank you for your interest in Windows Update*

Windows Update is the online extension of Windows that helps you get the
most out of your computer.

The latest version of Windows Update is available on computers that are
running Microsoft Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, Windows
Millennium Edition, Windows 2000 (except Windows 2000 Datacenter
Server), Windows XP, and the Windows Server 2003 family.
------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am running Win XP Pro and get the same result using either the Windows
Updater in the OS or via the microsoft.com website using MSIE 6. The
same problem; i.e., site not recognizing a Microsoft operating system;
was posted on the microsoft.public.windowsxp.help_and_support newsgroup
yesterday. I responded by asking what browser the individual was using
as I know it won't respond to a non-Microsoft browser. This without
actually trying to go to the site at that time (I had been to the site
within the previous day or so without problem). Hope you can get this
fixed in short order.

Doug;
Windows Update is working, I have used it tonight with various
operating systems.
Follow this:
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/troubleshoot/
Look for "When attempting to access the Windows Update Web site you
receive the following message: Thank You -- you must be running a
Microsoft windows operating system in order to use windows update"

Otherwise follow the Windows Update Checklist:
