Windows unable to see onboard LAN

The other day i was upating various drivers and accidently uninstalled my
network driver, now (for some reason) windows cannot even see this hardware
in device manger. I cant seem reinstall drivers for this divce. Is there
anyway to force seeing certian types of hardware ?

Im using VIA type hardware.

Take your choice of 4 tries:

1) You need the CD that came with your motherboard
or download the drivers from the manufacturer.
As you can't "see" the NIC is DM, you may need
to install the chipset drivers first.
This method will always work.

2) If you have a back-up, copy all needed drivers from
X:\Windows\system32 and
X:\Windows\system32\Drivers
where "X:" is the backup drive and/or directories
and "needed" means missing.
This method will always work.

3) <Cont Panel>, <Add Hardware>. After detection
fails, click next and then "Yes, I have already..", and
next again and then locate the NIC. This method will
probably require the CD from step #1 depending on
how the drivers got deleted.

4) System restore. <All Programs>, <Accessories>,
<System Tools>, <System Restore>. Select a date/
time prior to your "accident". This method, again, is
dependant on how the drivers were deleted.

Im on my notebook now, #1 - Iv downloaded updated drivers and have used
drivers from the CD nether have worked. #2 - I do not have a backup (never
expected something like this would happen). #3 - The CD is incompatible with
64bit. #4 - I do not use system restore.

When the drivers were deleted it was through the Add Programmes in control
panel. I just cant see why the OS cant see the device. Is there a way mabye
through the registry the system could recognise the divice ?

Don't mess with the registry at this point. At this point this is a
simple missing driver issue. Read back over Ed's suggestions.
Normally if you delete an item the drivers are not deleted.
Did you do the "have disc" option. If you point to the nic drivers in
X:\windows\system32\drivers or ever pick it from a list, they should or
could still be in the list. Windows stores them in files like .inf
files. They normally don't disappear. Normally. There are always
exceptions to the rules.
 
Theres nothing i can point to untill i can first see this device.

The only two types of drivers thats in the system are Eicon Networks and
Microsoft. Which i think originally came with XP.

Iv tryed the chipset drivers and i still cannot see the LAN.

Does your BIOS see the NIC? Is it enabled in BIOS?

couple a years ago had a buddy's on-board LAN fail on a reload. it was
listed in the BIOS but Win XP Pro did not see it and would not load a
driver. I install a card I and then XP found both of them. loaded the
drivers for the on-board shut it down and removed the card and the on-board
is still working to this day. still don't know why?
 
I had a friend of mine take a look at this and we both eventually came to the
conclusion that apparently my bios on my board was programmed wrong. I had to
flash the bios to resolve the problom.
I still cant figure out how i got drivers in there to begine with, anyway i
appreciate the feedback, everythings alright now.
