Windows 2000 SP4, I have a server where the Windows Time
Service is stuck in the status of 'Starting'.
Will this require a reboot to fix or is there a command
that can be executed to get this service out of
the 'starting' state?

You need to go to the task manager and find the name of
that process. Once you find the name look on that same
line and find the PID number for it. Then go to a DOS
prompt and type "kill #####". Do not the the quotation
marks and replace the ##### with the PID number. That
will end that process immediately. Afterward, you can
restart the service.

Thanks. I think I may need to do as the first respondent
recommended because I can't associate a process in task
manager with this time service. I've had task manager
open with all processes, started the time service, and
didn't see any additional processes in task manager.
There is no W32Time 'process' running. I can use your
explanation for other services, though.
