Windows Terminate Automatically

Hi

We have a PC that runs on Windows XP Home Edition. It is probably a virus
as has only started recently but is now worsening and affects both the
internet and other PC tasks.

When accessing the internet, explorer often terminates after less than a
second when attempting to access certain, and most web pages - more noticable
on pages where you are required to enter personal details such as logging on
to check bank details or to process payments for purchases etc.

This problem now affects more than just the internet explorer. Most tasks
on the PC where when you click on an icon then a box appears also now
terminate automatically in under a second. For example if you click on any
drive on 'my computer' the box flashes up very briefly then terminates. I
tried putting norton antivirus on a cd on another pc to load to check for
problems, but am unable to even run the program as when you click on the 'd'
(CD) drive icon the box opens briefly and then closes. This also happens
most sectios within the 'internet options' window and for most other aspects
of windows. So I seem to be able to be stuck in a position where I cant
check any settings etc as the boxes that appear with these settings and
information in just close automatically almost instantly.

Any help would be much appreciated I hope someone can help!

Many Thanks

Mark

Hi Mark,

This is most likely malware related, but there is one hardware cause that
needs to be eliminated.

This may sound silly, but check to see if the escape key is sticking or there
are any objects laying on the keyboard which can press the escape key. I
have seen this on several customers systems as a result of desk clutter
creeping onto the keyboard escape key and forcing escape from programs.
