Have new computer with Windows XP Home. Windows was pre-loaded, but during
first use it asked some basic questions. One was for my name. I typed in my
complete name, and now see that the long name defaults as the Windows Systems
Folder name. This makes every file path extremely long. Attemped to change
this to my much shorter nickname, and receive a message saying the Folder
cannot be changed.

My User name is simply "Bob". Is there a way to change the MY Documents to
my User Name, or somehow actually change the name of the Windows Systems
Folder?

Hi Bob,

I am thinking that you are not referring to the C:\Windows\system32 folder,
but rather the user account folder for yourself under C:\Documents and
settings. The user profile folders there cannot have their names changed,
they are considered system folders. To have a user profile with a short
name, like "bob", create a new user account, then copy your existing user
profile into it via the procedure described here:

How to Copy User Data to a New User Profile
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=811151

Note that one step not listed in the article is that after creating the
destination profile you must log into it once first to create the necessary
file structure before you do the copy procedure.
