Windows Stops Responding

This happens infrequently, at times more than others... Windows stops
responding. For awhile I would open Windows IE, Outlook Express, Microsoft
Word, and if the windows were not touched they would remain active, but as
soon as I would attempt to do something in these windows, be it open
something or more often than not type something in, e.g. Type something in
search for IE, anything type in Word, or open email the window would freeze.
If I were to click on any selections in the toolbar the selection would
merely flash for a millisecond. The top bar would be the paler colour
indicating an inactive window, clicking on it would do nothing. I could
close the window, but that would be it. Sometimes the problem extends
itself to the "Start" button. I would click on the "Start" button but it
would only flash and be of no use. Restarting the computer usually
eliminates the problem; sometimes it would take a couple of restarts. My
Norton Antivirus is up to date and I scan regularly. Any ideas as to why
this occurs? AMD Athlon(tm) XP 1800+ 1.5 GHz

thanks, Bob

There are several things that can cause this. One, how much ram do you have
in the computer? A computer that is running out of memory will do this
things. You can go to the Task Manager and check under the performance tab
to see you memory usage. If you have plenty of RAM, what updates have you
installed. I recall hearing something about an update that stopped system
hangs. You might go to the update site to get more information.

Hope this helps.
